Panelists confirmed for forum series

Journalists and commentators from more than a dozen news media outlets and blogs have confirmed their participation in Richmond Decision ’08, the three-part series of community mayoral forums that kick off Tuesday, Sept. 23.

The collaboration includes print, broadcast and online media representing a wide variety of news and information organizations. The forums are open to the public and all local media are welcome.

The five mayoral candidates are scheduled to appear at the forums, moderated by Style Weekly Editor Jason Roop. A three-member panel will pose questions to the candidates on Richmond’s most crucial issues.

The panelists are:

Sept. 23
Forum I: The Future of Downtown Richmond
• Edwin Slipek Jr. – Senior contributing editor and architecture critic, Style Weekly
• Jimmy Barrett – Host, “Richmond’s Morning News,” 1140 WRVA
• Aaron Gilchrist – News anchor, NBC12

Oct. 14
Forum II: Education and the Cultural Landscape
• Brandon Reynolds – Arts and culture editor, Style Weekly
• Sandra Jones - News reporter, WTVR-TV/CBS 6
• Michael Paul Williams – Columnist, Richmond Times-Dispatch
 
Oct. 28
Forum III: Living and Working in Richmond
• Scott Bass – News editor, Style Weekly
• Jeremy Lazarus - Staff writer, Richmond Free Press
• May-Lily Lee – Host/Senior producer, “Virginia Currents,” The Community Idea Stations
 
In addition, WRIR-FM 97.3, Richmond Independent Radio, plans to record and broadcast the events on the Friday following each forum, from 1-3 p.m. Local bloggers will provide on-site, real-time commentary on RVANews.com while the candidates discuss where they stand on the issues.
